Portable Toilets

Wilderness camping may turn some people off because of the lack of bathroom facilities and privacy.  Pop-up campers don’t always have a commode in them either.  Taking the family out on a pontoon boat for the day could be rough if you don’t have a portable toilet on board.  With the right portable toilet, you can take one with you if you are roughing it in the woods, in a small camper, tent or a boat.  There are many types and styles to purchase, so choose the proper Portable Toilet for your use.

Portable toilets used with campers or in boats are usually more expensive.  They range from $30.00 to $2000.00 whether they are chemical type or composting type portable toilet.  They sit low to the ground for stability and are usually heavy and take up some room.  In some campers you can put them under a bed or in a closet when not in use.  I have seen them used by people car camping by setting up a shower/changing type tent to put their portable toilet in to use instead of the outhouses or public facilities for sanitary reasons.

You can buy portable toilets that look like a foldable chair, ideal for use during hiking trips.  A bag attaches to it and when finished, you just tie it up and pack it out with you.  These usually run between $20.00 and $30.00.  This type of portable toilet sure beats squatting over a hole behind some brush.  The women in your group will thank you for thinking of them with this uncomfortable subject.  Most purists just carry a trowel, but novices my want to start out with a Portable toilet until they are comfortable with relieving themselves in the outdoors without any privacy.

You can also find portable toilets like urinals.  They are made for men or women and are great to use in a tent when you don’t want to get out at night due to the temperature.  Getting out of a warm sleeping bag when it is less than thirty degrees isn’t a comforting thought.

Portable toilets can make any outing more successful, especially when you are dealing with small children.  Nothing is worse than youngsters that have to go, and are not comfortable with out an actual commode.  So the next time you plan on heading outdoors for a day or a weekend, think about taking along a Portable Toilet.
