Mountain Bikes have gear shifters mounted on the handlebars. Some have twenty-one, twenty-four, or twenty-seven speeds, equipped with three sprockets in the front and between seven and nine in the back. The original bikes have fifteen gears. Mountain Bikes, like other types, have gone to disc style brakes. This is much improved over the rim system ones because they are located in the center of the wheel and have more control and breaking power in adverse conditions.
